Karen Blixen settled in the Ngong Hills in 1913 with her husband, Baron Bror Blixen to establish a coffee farm, which she abandoned penniless in the 1930’s. Her experiences, and her love affair with Denys Finch Hatton, inspired the book “Out of Africa”, which she wrote under the pen name Isak Dinesen. In her book she expresses her love for the Ngong Hills: “that had not it’s like in all the world”. Her old farmhouse was restored to the style in which she maintained it and this is now a museum in her honor. The Karen Blixen museum is one of a number of very interesting regional museums and archeological and prehistoric sites of the National museums of Kenya, and it continues to be an immensely popular tourist attraction with the same words ‘ I dreamt of Africa’, you will learn more about her history.
