In Kenya we have 42 tribes, the major ones are luo, kalenjin, kamba, kikuyu and luhya which together account for 70% of the total population, they each exhibit different and distinct Kenya cultural code of practices and traditions.
We have a tribe called Maasai-though not major a tribe, it is the most authentic ethnic tribe of Kenya. It is a unique and popular tribe in Kenya due to their long preserved Kenya culture which remains intact despite the western cultural influences, civilization & education making this tribe the symbol of Kenyan culture.
The maasai people live with the beasts in perfect harmony since time immemorial, their traditional music consists of rhythms provided by a chorus of vocalists singing harmonies while a song leader, or olaranyani, sings the melody by use of Greater kudu. They drink the blood of their animals to get important nutrients for their bodies, although they are careful not to kill the cattle, as their wealth is measured in the number of animals they keep.
Masai homes are traditionally built by the women, constructed of branches woven together with grass and smeared with cow dung on the walls. They utilize every part of the animal-Horns are used for containers; hooves and bones are fashioned into ornaments; and hides are cured for shoes, clothing, bed coverings, and ropes. Their dressing codes is incredible, they make fire by rotating a wood stick in a hole in a board.
